mr. dr. C.G. (Cees) Verburg

Cees specializes in energy law, arbitration law, and EU State aid law. He has assisted (international) companies and governments in legal issues regarding production, transportation, storage, and delivery of various energy carriers. His work concerns both regulatory matters, relating to applicable energy laws and regulations, as well as contractual matters, such as PPAs, BPAs and CTOs. Recently, Cees has frequently represented clients in civil and administrative proceedings against gas and electricity system operators regarding the manner in which they exercise their statutory duties and powers, in particular disputes regarding grid connections and transportation capacity. In addition, Cees has particular experience with arbitration and arbitration-related court proceedings.

Because Cees regularly advises (decentralized) authorities and state-owned enterprises with the development and exploitation of energy projects, he often deals with matters pertaining to European state aid rules. To address these issues, he possesses sound knowledge of these rules to address the associated issues.

Cees was admitted to the bar in 2019 and has been working at TRIP since 2022. In 2020 he obtained his PhD from the Groningen Center of Energy Law of the University of Groningen. Cees regularly publishes and lectures in the field of energy law, international investment law and arbitration law.
