Cees specializes in energy law and arbitration law. He has assisted (international) companies and governments in legal issues regarding the production, transport, storage and delivery of various energy carriers. His work concerns both regulatory matters, relating to e.g. the Electricity Act 1998, the Gas Act and the Heating Act, as well as contractual matters, such as PPAs, BPAs and CTOs.
Cees also specializes in arbitration law. He has advised and assisted governments and (international) companies in arbitration proceedings – as well as arbitration-related proceedings before regular courts – under various arbitration rules (NAI, UNCITRAL, ICC, ICSID).
Cees was admitted to the bar in 2019 and has been working at TRIP since 2022. In 2020 he obtained his PhD from the Groningen Center of Energy Law of the University of Groningen. His thesis concerned the protection and promotion of investments in renewable energy sources under the Energy Charter Treaty. Cees regularly publishes and lectures in the field of energy law, international investment law and arbitration law. For example, he teaches in the context of the post-academic course “Energy Law in Practice” of the University of Groningen.
